The journey at Cambridge has been nothing short of fascinating, filled with moments of awe and
self-discovery. After working for over five years as a technical consultant, I decided to return to
academia after a four-year hiatus. It was a difficult and deeply introspective decision to leave the comfort and security of a steady job, family, and everything familiar to embark on this new,
uncertain path. Yet, the desire to challenge myself and explore uncharted intellectual terrain
ultimately outweighed my hesitation.

One of the most unforgettable moments was my first day at Cambridge, stepping onto the historic
grounds, with the ancient spires of King’s College and Trinity College towering overhead. I could
hardly believe I was walking the same paths once trodden by legends like Sir Isaac Newton,
Amartya Sen, Shri Aurobindo Ghose, and Stephen Hawking. The weight of that history was
overwhelming, and I had to pinch myself to truly absorb the magnitude of being in this
extraordinary place.

Cambridge often feels like stepping into the magical world of Harry Potter. The grandeur of formal
dinners, with their long, candle-lit tables in majestic halls, perfectly mirrors the Hogwarts
experience I had always dreamed of. Studying in this enchanting setting feels like living a fantasy,
fulfilling the long-cherished desires of a die-hard Potterhead. Each day brings something new,
and it’s easy to get swept away by the wonder of it all.

However, beyond this magical facade lies the reality of a fast-paced and demanding environment.
My multitasking skills have become my greatest ally in navigating the intense academic workload,
managing extra-curricular activities, and diving into recruitment season.

Coming from a much warmer climate, one of the biggest surprises has been the weather.
Cambridge’s chilly, often unpredictable climate has been a revelation. Now, I eagerly await those
rare sunny days when I can enjoy punting on the serene Cam River or sit back and relax with a
cream tea at one of the charming roadside cafés that dot the city. These small joys have become
precious moments of respite.

As I immerse myself in the whirlwind of the Michaelmas Term, I look forward to rediscovering
myself along the way. This journey, though sometimes bumpy and unpredictable, promises to be
one of the most transformative experiences of my life. Life at Cambridge, is going to be a beautiful
and challenging adventure and I am truly excited to see it unfold!
